Southern Indiana Classic Marathon & Half-Marathon
In Memory of
Harold R. Carey
On January 10th, 2012, the Evansville running community and the Ultimate Fit Race Team lost a true inspriation to all runners/walkers.
Harold was a frequent winner in his age division at local & national level races, Harold was a four-time gold medal winner at the National Senior Olympics. He won his first 5K in the 50-and-over division of the Senior Olympics in 1999 at Orlando, Fla., when he was 75. He followed it up with victories in 2001 at Baton Rouge, La., 2003 at Norfolk, Va., and 2005 at Pittsburgh, Pa., and placed second in the 5K in the 80-and-over division at the 2007 Senior Olympics at Louisville, Ky. He ran his first marathon at age 87 in the Southern Indiana Classic in 2010.
Harold was a frequent participant in the Southern Indiana Classic training runs, and we have had many participants relay their stories to us of how Harold has inspired them in their running/wakling endeavors.
We would like to hear your inspirational stories about Harold! Send them to ultimate_fit@yahoo.com, and we will post them on our website and on our social media sites.
